Дан Маркович родился 9 октября 1940 года в Таллине. По первой специальности — биохимик, энзимолог. С середины 70-х годов - художник, автор нескольких сот картин, множества рисунков. Около 20 персональных выставок живописи, графики и фотонатюрмортов. Активно работает в Интернете, создатель (в 1997 г.) литературно-художественного альманаха “Перископ” . Писать прозу начал в 80-е годы. Автор четырех сборников коротких рассказов, эссе, миниатюр (“Здравствуй, муха!”, 1991; “Мамзер”, 1994; “Махнуть хвостом!”, 2008; “Кукисы”, 2010), 11 повестей (“ЛЧК”, “Перебежчик”, “Ант”, “Паоло и Рем”, “Остров”, “Жасмин”, “Белый карлик”, “Предчувствие беды”, “Последний дом”, “Следы у моря”, “Немо”), романа “Vis vitalis”, автобиографического исследования “Монолог о пути”. Лауреат нескольких литературных конкурсов, номинант "Русского Букера 2007". Dan Markovich was born on the 9th of October 1940, in Tallinn. For many years his occupation was research in biochemistry, the enzyme studies. Since the middle of the 1970ies he turned to painting, and by now is the author of several hundreds of paintings, and a great number of drawings. He had about 20 solo exhibitions, displaying his paintings, drawings, and photo still-lifes. He is an active web-user, and in 1997 started his “Literature and Arts Almanac Periscope”. In the 1980ies he began to write. He has four books of short stories, essays and miniature sketches (“Hello, Fly!” 1991; “Mamzer” 1994; “By the Sweep of the Tail!” 2008; “The Cookies Book” 2010), he wrote eleven short novels (“LBC”, “The Turncoat”, “Ant”, “Paolo and Rem”, “White Dwarf”, “The Island”, “Jasmine”, “The Last Home”, “Footprints on the Seashore”, “Nemo”), one novel “Vis Vitalis”, and an autobiographical study “The Monologue”. He won several literary awards. Some of his works were published by literary magazines “Novy Mir”, “Neva”, “Kreshchatyk”, “Our Street”, and others.

    Hullo,it’s Irene. As for the photos, I think it better to answer myself. Kazan is not that bad as it might seem. I simply have a passion for taking pictures of slums as I see neihther romance nor enigma in modern constructions. Just for you I’ve installed the picture of Kazan University in livejournal, the building is very old. The University has some more buildings but they are skyscrapers and not of my interest. The drawings are of my husband Dan. He’ll write you himself.

    The woman in the white-and-black picture is my wife Irene. She is next best pro in photography. The photos are hers. The inscription gives her name Irina Kazanskaja and (as you have already guessed), the subject of the puctures taken:»The sights of old Kazan» Kazan is a city on the Volga river. It is the capital of the Tartar Republic. She had lived there for many years and got a higher education at the University of Kazan. Next time I’ll give some comments on some pictures but now I’ll only difine the general trend. She is keen on photos of ruins and slum. And all these buildings don’t exist any more.

    I don’t really have any specific questions. I don’t read Russian (Cryllic?) and so while I enjoy the artwork, I have no idea what the text says. But since you offered…

    There are some phots about half way don’t the page — the time stamp is 2:35 am under the heading «ИРИНА КАЗАНСКАЯ: ВИДЫ СТАРОЙ КАЗАНИ» ( I assume that’s the subject or date)? Where were the photos taken? any other info you could offer would be appreciated.

    Да, несколько экземпляров в Питере было, пока что немного. Постараюсь еще переслать.
    «Континента» в нашей деревне нет, не видел. Теперь «Ант» напечатан, кто хочет, может прочесть, это главное. Я перестал им интересоваться, пусть сам по себе живет 🙂
    В «Родомысле», в номере 9, только что появилась повесть «Жасмин». У них отличный красивый журнал, солидный тираж, так что и «Жасмин» теперь как бы сам по себе. Из совсем «безбумажных» у меня «Перебежчик» и «Предчувствие беды», надо бы ими заняться, да все времени не хватает.
    Надеюсь, Вы не шибко обиделись на выдержки из Вашего рассказа, которые послал Вам. В основном это Ваша спешка и небрежность, вещи исправимые.

  8. Дан, Ваша книга наконец добралась до Питера. Я купил ее в «Летнем саду». Спасибо. читаю:)
    В «Континенте» в обзоре толстых журналов упоминается и Ваш «Ант», но там по сути ничего и не сказано, только пересказ.
