Poetry Is Not The Issue…

An elderly graphomaniac poet was presenting his poetry. His poetry… never mind, poetry is not the issue \here\. He finished with his pieces – and immediately started to recite them all over again! Repeating it word for word, from the very beginning. He forgot that he had already done it once. Everybody stunned, at a loss what to do… The hostess of the event recovered control over the situation – “isn’t it time for us to have a little break?”

I took my leave, so as to what happened next, that I don’t know.

What was it that I was driving at…

Oh, what an ugly trick old age is…

Nowhere to Run…

Dog Vasya had lived with me for 16 years, and he never loved me. He never loved us, people – not a single person. No dog-like devotion about him, I cannot stand \this trait\. For that I respected and loved him. He got on with us, tolerated us… and stole away \from us\, whenever he could – disappeared. In a few days he would be back, have a good meal, a good sleep, and run away again. I think he didn’t like any dogs either. Though he did worship mean smallish bitches, but that doesn’t count. I always longed to know what he might be doing, alone, when he grew tired of running. He never grew tired…

And when he grew old, he still would run away. Only he ceased running far at that time, so I often saw the familiar head in the bushes, his shaggy ears. A big dog, with thick fawn colored fur, with black stripe down his back. He lied with his head on his paws — and watched on and on and on – the trees, the grass, the road, the sky…

He died, and it took me many years to understand him.

All The Same It Is a Lie…

It happens: you find a kitten, you have him recuperate, eat to gain enough weight, but in the studio his fate is determined: he would learn to get down to the ground pretty soon. To keep them locked up is not possible. After that his life would be more interesting, more normal than that of animals locked to live within the four walls – he would learn to climb trees, hide in the grass, stalk birds… He would be free, and when hungry, he would climb up \via balcony\ to my place. In cold weather he would sit close to the luke-warm central heating radiator in the kitchen.

Everything would have been just beautiful but for the humans and the cars. These free animals rarely make it to the ripe old age. Therefore I try to adopt them out to homes.

But parting is \always\ hard, and I don’t like the kind of life they are going to have.

And I say to each and every of them – “I am sorry, but this way it will be quieter, safer, more replete for you…”

And I despise myself for I do not believe in things I am saying. I never chose this kind of life for myself.

It is the same with the pictures, I know they will be better off in other people’s homes than in the cold studio, but nevertheless, avoid meeting them again — never go visit them, have a look at them…
…………………………………………………………

On the Opening of Doors…

Cats open doors by pushing them, or pulling them, \and\ show real wonders of sagacity while doing it, reinvent lever actually.

But as to getting doors shut afterwards… Not on your life!

But lots of people are not up to it either.
…………………………………………………..

One and A Hundred…

Sincerity is a form of fearlessness. There are other forms \of it\, like unreasonable rage, noble impulses, selflessness… they are more than numerous… Sincerity is a form of fearlessness that bears a most close relation to art. And fanciful forms, deliberate complication, stilted manner, rudeness, verbal flux, highbrowisms* peddled for wisdom, false significance – all these are forms of fear. What would they say, how would they appreciate \you\, whether they would publish it… are you keeping pace with the time, or have you hopelessly fallen behind… Is there wisdom enough in it… And a hundred more reasons.

The issue of sincerity is central for art, because without it… You may rise to a very high threshold, but as to going any further – no go.
